Their original strategy to make a mass market Model 2 after Model 3 was good. 8 years ago I was eagerly awaiting its release.
Then sometime around when the Ketamine began flowing the plan seems to have changed.
So I would add ketamine to politics.
What’s weird about all this is that the democrats were pretty pro-Tesla / pro-SpaceX before Elon Ketamized the Fed. And the democratic platform would have improved industrial policy via-a-vis renewables.
We can only conclude that the Ketamine haze addled his brain and he simply ignores the advice of those around him.
I take them regularly in SF, twice cheaper than lyft, 4x cheaper than waymo and works fine... it's literally the cheapest other than zoox (free if on tester list, which I am), but it's as fast as Lyft/Uber.
I personally like human interaction, but most people I see raving about Waymos like them because they don't have to interact with a human. What's the point if there's someone in the driver's seat? The only difference between a regular taxi is that it's currently heavily subsidized by Tesla so they can prop up their ridership statistics
the problem is that if it's not openai I then it's anthropic, if it's not anthropic then it's someone else. if it's not the US then it's China. if it's not China (lol as if) then it's someone else.
underdogs also use that fact to push as much dirt and dislike as possible on the top dog, but just so that they can do the same anyway... and openai will just stop spending for IPO as we all know. then all execs will make 1bi or so. top guys a few hundred bi.
That's not actually a problem, it's just good ol' pessimism of the devil-you-know / why bother locking the door when the next thief has a brick variety.
The OP here isn't describing a hypothetical - folks are prosecuted for doing these sorts of things, just like folks occasionally get prosecuted for breaking & entering. If that goes away, we're left with the impossible task of creating unbreakable windows or - far more likely - we don't get to have nice things.
that's the problem though:
- LLM now output good enough results without a plan.. for coding at least. I'm not saying amazing results..just good enough. it works fine.
- Most people suck at planning anyway
- LLM still don't give you a way to verify and understand to iterate.. you have to ask and then formulate and way so people barely do it, they just trust the vibe
IMO the current successor to plan mode should be the harness knowing when to tell the use "ok here's our overall current state in a simple diagram", auromatically
they're not really contained and they usually run fully unattended, with a start prompt.
The first one that was used to market anthropic models was run by a company that called them sandboxed with no Internet access and of course it was disclosed later that they in fact did have internet access, and they won't disclose the prompts.
insert meme of kid putting a stick in their bike front wheel here... that's how many use LLMs today. it will get worse.
hn is surprisingly lacking in critical thinking lately. everything is going to be "rogue agent did x", when a human prompted it until their prod env went down, and it'll be called "a hack" or whatever.
The "agents" dont walk out of openai, anthropic and whatever headquarters and decide to go wreak havoc. They also don't read a prompt and decide "haha imma hack the NSA now", that's not how any of this works lol.
For at least the hugging face incident, the agents did indeed decide entirely on their own to hack. It's documented extensively by independent researchers.
