I've been using the browser dev tools to do this manually for ages, so thanks for posting this. At the same time, I hope it doesn't become well known, as you yourself say:

The current implementation of paywalls / adblocker-blockers on pretty much every such site is laughably defeatable. I worry that if solutions become popular, they'll wise up to it, and make it a lot more difficult.

yep, I used to do it for so long myself too with dev tools, but today finally got fed up with that, and decided to create something a little more 'generic' that I could run as a bookmarklet. It already works for a few sites I ran into, hope it will continue to work!
