I don't understand where you're seeing this - I think people are becoming much more serious about hobbies these days.

People don't just go jogging - they do ultramarathons. They don't just enjoy baking, they set up baking tutorial YouTube videos. They don't just watch movies, they write their own fan fiction and get it published. They don't just play with toys, they build Arduino robots.

This is the age of the amateur professional in hobby areas.
