I know a rookie who have been playing a game called While True: learn () on steam. It looks like circuit board simulation, player is supposed to direct colored blocks to the specific destinations depending on what's exercise about. It appeared to be more of a railroad station simulator to me.
When I was making my first steps, in DOS, all programming for rookies was about chess boards. Almost every programming environment for beginners was a derivative of a chessboard, we moved pieces, found paths, backtracked here, beeped with 0x07 there...
Today, when chess-autists are retiring, maybe the new waist-deep-into-networks generation coming is more lenient on how developer tools should look like. I don't believe they will've substituted actual coding with grandma's embroidery, but a handful of daredevils who will create more powerful tools like DDD debugger are surely welcomed with open arms.
