I won't go into the gnarly details, but for better or worse I'm looking into a Stripe Connect alternative.

Does anyone have experience with either rolling your own, other services, or a DIY approach (cobbled together with Spreedly maybe?).

In this particular case we do not want/need to be the merchant of record, we just want to be able to create charges on behalf of our merchants. If you are familiar with Stripe Connect lingo, this means all of our connected accounts are 'standard' accounts that we create direct charges on.
