I just don't understand what society gains from censorship.
I am only capable of viewing censorship through the lens of political motivations, i.e Democrats who think Joe Rogan is helping Republicans win more voters would like to silence him.
Society gains nothing. Certain political activists do, however. Spotify, like many tech companies, has a sizeable number of these political advocates on their staff.
Follow progressive academics and activists on social media. They actively deride the concept of free speech. Read their writings. They explain that free speech leads to free thought, which may lead to "hate" (which they define as non-compliance with their political dogma). They also define non-compliant speech as a form of violence. Paradoxically, they also define failure to engage in compliant speech (ie "silence") as a form of violence.
Therefore, to prevent "hate", one must take effort to abolish non-compliant speech. And the only way to not be "hateful" and "violent" is full-throated advocacy of their political beliefs.
