Such a sad state of affairs. This feels like a bunch of half-baked designers butting in, seeing a, well, eh, "old fashioned" logo, slapping together a blinky new-style logo and thinking that's all there is to it. Since a consensus has been reached that an evolved logo might be a good idea, you guys should hold a design contest, where designer can submit an entirely "evolved" look and feel for the entire application and website. And the winner gets to design the logo. And all the "Look, I've made a prettier logo this weekend" folks have to shut up or put up.
The fact that the logo is ugly is not a problem in itself, honestly, who cares? The problem is that this makes it such a low hanging fruit; attracting a bunch of washed up hack designers looking to pad their resume with a logo, not realizing it's not about banging together something pretty in an afternoon, and in the meantime, wasting the resources of people doing actual work.
Guess, problem with logo actually reveals due to founding of the FreeCAD Project Association and first FreeCAD conferences being held last months — now there is a part of FreeCAD users that wants associate themself with FreeCAD visually, but found that logo is not so attractive as Blender's logo.
