$1200 for a non-exotic butcher block desktop doesn’t make any sense in the US, either:

Home Depot’s countertops are kind of overpriced, and it’s still only a few hundred dollars for a desk-sized piece.

Also, butcher block is fairly light, at least compared to plywood, OSB or particle board.
