$2000 might be better spent on a phone that doesn’t have an operating system scheduled to expire 2-3 years from now. Every iPhone I’ve owned has had multiple lifetimes with family after the 3-4 years of use I might get out of it. Androids are scheduled to expire.
Not many people. But I'm using an iphone 8 from 2017 and it's still going strong. It was €800 when I purchased it. It probably has another 2 or 3 years in it.
I have not had a dead Apple device and I’ve been an Apple owner since 2007. Old phones/laptops are used for testing, entertainment or temp phone for the kids, given to relatives, used as travel devices, used by visiting family from abroad, etc. 2 have lost Wifi access due to damage and they can still be used as cameras or typewriters by family. It’s absolutely mind boggling to me that deliberate software expiration should ever be a reason to throw out a hardware device. Don’t ever tell me an organization that does that should be admired for quality engineering.
