On the github page there is headline, disclaimer, documentation, feature list etc. but the page never once describes what the product is and does in few lines.

Please add a description heading on top too. I didn't understand what you mean by self hosting on phone. Does it all run on your phone making your phone the main backup server? Or do you mean there is an app which you run and connect to a self hosted backup server?
