Jami: Dev Update #11 (jami.net)

I went through all of the messengers out there, Jami was by far the nicest. The biggest issue being on linux: Electron everything. It eats up more RAM and CPU usage than I can possible express, and just idle. Not only on my laptop sitting on my desk doing nothing, but my phone would get hot too. Same for the people that were using it with me. This is ALL of them, mostly with video and voice chat. Some messengers like Session where messages wouldn't come in or sync. Signal works out of box, but also, uses 100% CPU on all 4 cores when doing video. (No video card, Intel onboard video)

If me and others would travel, the messages would make it to our desktops, and calls/messages would never reach the mobile devices. Jami was one of these. Session being the worst culprit.

We settled on Element/matrix. Nextcloud's Talk is also really good, which is built on matrix as well.

Love Jami, it's definitely an amazing client. Only issue I had with it on Linux other than the CPU issues was the random crashing when I'd choose to do an emoji on a message, it'd close Jami and I'd have to re-open it. Might give it a try again but don't have anybody to message on it.
