Sad. I'm not a Londoner, but I share the pain when a useful feature is removed.
As a related example, where I live, there is a ticket machine in almost all stops with a reasonably sized touchscreen. About a year ago they started to use the screens (when they weren't used otherwise) to show when the next bus comes - this was super useful, because not all stops have a dedicated display for this. After about 3 months later they removed it overnight. They didn't even reply me when I sent them a message asking about it...
