Or the Industrial Revolution? The automobile? Every single technological advancement has promised “fewer hands, more leisure” and we’ve always found a way to make that claim false. I have no idea how one can continue to claim it

But the industrial revolution did substantially reduce the need for working hands in agriculture.

If AI does the same for other industries it can offset a reduction in population, or a reduction might actually be beneficial
