I'm an indie game dev. Which Linux OS do most users typically use? I'm not sure, so I'm asking. Would it be okay to test the game running on Ubuntu?

That's a reasonable baseline, yes. I would also consider trying running it on Arch Linux, because it usually has newer library versions and it's the base of SteamOS.

Oh, thank you for your reply. I'll check out Arch Linux as well.

The Debian derivatives, particularly the Ubuntu line is generally considered the most popular. That said, they tend to be 10 to 20 years behind on versions of various pieces of software so things that work there may not work on something a little more up-to-date, like Fedora; which also means that after a while those things will also stop working on the Debian derivatives. If you're not very interested in keeping on top of changes and maintaining things you're better off just targeting Wine, in which case the distribution you test on doesn't matter very much as Wine is very stable.

Thanks, that makes sense. I’ll start with Ubuntu for now and check other distros later if needed.
