LotusScript was heavily modelled after Visual Basic. I thought it was an awful language to work with. :) But LN was generally a fun platform... as long as you kept things very, very simple.
You're right, it was VBScript that it mimicked. I then parlayed that into Active Server Pages, which could use VBScript or JScript. We pivoted into JScript and that's when the web dev world truly opened up for me.
