The Patriot Act was passed 25 years ago...

Didn't congress leave it as expired around 2020?

All the fun stuff just got repackaged under another name. Regardless, privacy has been eroding for decades at this point.

What did they change the name to? After I asked the last comment I did try to go back down that rabbit hole but didn't find much, I must not have not had quite the right terms to find what I was looking for.

If we're arguing semantics it would be incorrect to say that it was simply renamed. Nothing was literally renamed. The part of the Patriot Act that lapsed in 2020 was Section 215. This was already gutted by https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/2048... 5 years prior. We also had FISA in 2008 https://www.congress.gov/crs-product/R48592. 702 also expired, except it was recertified through 2027 so who the fuck knows what's going on there. EO12333 https://www.nsa.gov/Signals-Intelligence/EO-12333/ is a few decades prior, but nobody likes it when the younger generation grumbles about its elders so I'm sticking to stuff in my lifetime.
