I agree that the cruelty is disgusting and unnecessary, but you're going to have a very, very hard time convincing people that removing foreigners will not free up jobs for Americans.

The average American doesn’t understand growth, you can see it in who they vote for.

pretty easy. over 50% of silicon valleys unicorns have an immigrant founder. if you cut off their ability to stay, you wouldn't have those companies, and there wouldn't be nearly as many high paying tech jobs.

That's preaching to the choir though. The people who need convincing aren't in silicon valley or even CA.

Oh, I was aiming at the people in this comment section that need convincing. On a site populated by people paid by SV companies you’d think it wouldn’t need explaining. And yet

"Your country wouldn't have jobs if you don't import the billionaire Epstein class that strip mines the working class!"

Thankfully, reasonable people do not fall victim to argumentum ad populum.

Thankfully, reasonable people understand the basics of job market dynamics (supply and demand).

I didn't make that argument, and neither did the parent. I stated a salient, practical obstacle. You are projecting a fallacy onto your perceived rhetorical enemy - maybe there is a Latin name for that fallacy.

In reality, what reasonable people actually do is use all the information available to them to make decisions (which may be flawed). Which is what is happening.
