>ISP-provided router that just works

I don't remember the last time this was true. These things don't have a 'just works' mode.

 help

I let them install the free ISP router a year back when they installed fiber in the neighborhood. I assumed I would swap it out the next day, but I haven't had any issues like back in the day. I love shopping for a nice router as much as the next tech nerd, but decent drop-in home networking seems to be pretty commodity now days.

Maybe things have improved and our needs have remained the same giving the illusion that the ISP supplied routers are good enough.

If things have improved and needs have remained the same then it’s not an illusion that the routers are good enough.

I've never touched my ISP-provided router. But maybe it's just how it works in my country (Malaysia), we pretty much only have 1 ISP with monopoly, so maybe that helps.

Maybe. In general though I think the speeds have improved and needs have remained the same giving the illusion that these things are good enough.

Unifi don't have a monopoly.

Exactly how I feel about the two major AI compute dealers.
