There's no need to throw him in jail. They can just install a hidden camera and record him typing the password. Next time he's out shopping the "maid" will drop by and the copy the hard drive.

One of the news reports on Snowden said when he logs types his passphrase he drapes a blanket over his head and laptop.

Keyloggers are a problem, so keep the laptop in a nice safe when you're out.
