Why is 1 GB equal to 10^9 bytes instead of 2^30?
Everytime this question comes up, I like to point out that contrary to common belief, decimal prefixes (as in 1kB = 1000 bytes) are MUCH more commonly used than binary prefixes in the computer industry:
