What’s the current price of a house purchased before right now?
They’re usually based on sales price and then also “reassessed” every couple / few years by the PVA (property value administrator) which now usually means using some sort of algorithm based on recent sales and whatever else. Then you’re given a chance to appeal the value with evidence showing why it doesn’t fit your specific situation before the tax payment is due. At least this is how it works in my area.
all residential property in the US is administered at the county level AFAIK.. Louisiana has parish law and New England has some township structures that may be a bit different. information welcome
At an old job I was responsible for blending custom alcoholic drinks before we sent it to bottling. One required stevia which when you opened the bag it came in would float into the air everywhere (it’s a super fine powder) and being young and stupid we didn’t wear any masks or anything. For the next couple days you’d have a constant taste of it in your mouth / nose that reminded me of sweetarts candy.
Except, I am not getting 653% more service. Traffic is worse, roads are worse (except the brand new ones), crime is higher, schools are more crowded. No public water for me. It is admittedly the price of growth in the area (recently rural area). I understand that government and taxes are good, up to a point. The extra taxes are bringing more people in but not helping those who are already here.
GA has both income tax and sales tax (and property taxes way less than Texas'...). A recent statewide proposal is considering capping home assessment increases at a set rate, pegged to inflation — until the house sells to a non-family owner.
I think all three ideas are GREAT for Joe Average Georgian.
