The CEO of Discord Humam Sakhnini, is a former partner at McKinsey. I think that tells you everything you need to know.

I'll be closing and uninstalling Discord the first time I get a face scan pop up.

That K-ID bypass has already been patched, and even if it's bypassed again, Discord is apparently directing some users to Persona instead now. Persona does server-side classification so that one won't be as easy as nulling out the checks on the client.

The 3D model method might work on Persona, but that demo only shows it fooling K-IDs classifier.

Oh, so they promised your face was only processed on the client and then deleted, but none of that is true? They're courting some huge GDPR fines.

Eh, the worldwide rollout hasn't happened yet so for now the only people getting sent to Persona after they promised client-side scanning are those who are fiddling around with Discords internals to trigger the age verification flow early. But yeah if they stick with Persona then they will need to retract the client-side promise before the proper rollout, and that'll be even more fuel on the PR fire.

Things are changing quickly. Some users are being allowed only 3rd party age verification.

This is spam.

We are on the dumbest timeline.

Their argument is so fundamentlaly false though. If the idea is to make American businesses more competitive, why tariff raw materials? That raises the cost of American goods. It makes us less competitive. They are either very bad at this, or the purpose of the tax is different than advertised.

Related thought. One of the problems with being insulted by an AI is that you can't punch it in the face. Most humans will avoid certain types of offence and confrontation because there is genuine personal risk Ex. physical damage and legal consequences. An AI 1. Can't feel. 2. Has no risk at that level anyway.

There is only a debate on this topic because propaganda works. It's a regressive tax, which disproportionately hits consumers.

Whether a policy decision creates effects that "harm" consumers isn't the only facet of international trade policy that has to be considered. In fact, it may be one of the least important depending on what exactly that harm is.

Exactly, it is regressive. Lower income spends higher proportion of income, therefore higher percent of income is hit by tariffs.

You know what all the poor people are bitching about right now? Power bills.

Which is why pushback against datacenter builds has begun..

RFKs quackery has the potential to kill more people than Idi Amin. Vaccines save about 4 Million lives per year according to the CDC. https://www.cdc.gov/global-immunization/fast-facts/

I'm sure it won't be long until that page is scrubbed and replaced with Newspeak.

You call out idiocy, using actual data, and get downvoted. On HN, without so much as a comment describing why you might be in error.

HN is indeed sliding.

Weren't the COVID lockdown all in 2020? As well as most of the mask mandate? Was 2020 during the 'last administration'?

Last year a friend of mine told me that one of the principal dividing lines in American politics is whether one can correctly answer who the president was in 2020 and 2008. They weren't wrong.

It's a really weird thing. I think the very strong negative emotions about COVID were simply naturally transferred over to Biden because he was a political enemy.

I think this is a dangerous reactionary mindset. When someone starts viewing their political enemies as the source of all evils it's very hard to have any sort of civil discourse.

Maybe putting sociopaths in charge of the government and the world economy was a bad idea.

Amazon has a very bad track record in this area. https://www.opensocietyfoundations.org/voices/amazon-is-wagi...

As an Austrian I have to wonder, is this name a homage to Josef Fritzl, one of the most well known Austrians of modern time?
